Grass snake

- non-venomous snake, living in humid woodland,
near water streams, ponds or water reservoirs where it feeds on amphibians, exceptionally small fish - its colour is grey or olive brown with a character-
istic white or yellow collar behind the head, on its upper jaw there are transverse black stripes - growing up to 120 cm length (sometimes up to
150 cm), the males are about 100 cm - its pupils are round
- its reproduction is oviparous – up to 30 young
- it is interesting that the females lay their eggs on
one place where there are sometimes more than 3000 eggs altogether - being in danger it turns onto its back to feign death (thanatosis) producing a smelly fluid similar to musk
to discourage the predators
