European copper skink
Ablepharus kitaibelii fitzingeri
- the only lizard belonging to the Scincidae family
in Slovakia - lives in dry, stony steppe slopes in sunny, grassy biotopes with leaves
- it is a small reptile with slender cylindrical body, short, thin legs, its colour is bronze-brown, grey-brown with shine and 2 longitudinal stripes
- does not have movable eyelids like other lizards,
but transparent scales as snakes - it feeds on small arthropods, spiders and worms
- it is oviparous, the female lays 2 – 6 eggs
- grows up to 10 cm (exceptionally 12 cm), half the length of its body makes its tale
