Fire salamander
Salamandra salamandra
- in the nature it can reach 20 years of age
- its length including its tail makes 28 cm
- feeds on earthworms, centipedes, spiders,
molluscs and insects - is sexually mature in the third-fourth year of its life
- it is ovoviviparous, laying about 40 – 70 larvae that change into adult salamanders after 3 months
- they live in submontane riparian forests, humid
valleys or streams, where they also reproduce - they're active throughout the night, in daytime they hide in the leafs or under stones
- on its basic black colour there are irregular yellow spots as warning for the predators
