- mammal a little bigger than the field mouse
- they live about 2 years, max. longevity about
3 years - they're good swimmers and divers, they're active
day and night - they live in burrows, excavated mostly within the
banks of rivers - the female gives birth to 3 – 11 young, 3 – 4 times
per year - it makes stocks for the winter made up of roots
and bulbs - they do not hibernate in winter but rarely come out from their burrow
- common preys of owls, especially for eagle-owls
and other predators
