European tree frog
Hyla arborea
- simple small frog about 3 – 4 cm big, weighing
8 grams - during May the males are loudly croaking in the
crowns of trees - its colour is blending with the colour of leafs to which it can adapt
- its hind legs are stronger, the front ones are used
for grabbing the prey - its diet is made up of flies, spiders and small invertebrates the frog hunts by jumping
- the female lays eggs into stagnant water (8 – 1000 eggs), where the larvae develop into tadpoles
- the discs on the frog's toes are used for climbing
trees and hedges - by moving they react to the changes of pressure; therefore people used them as barometers
